SMI-ICE-Chile shared the results of the survey with women from the coastal communities of Teck Quebrada Blanca

In collaboration with the coastal communities team of Teck Quebrada Blanca, SMI-ICE-Chile held a workshop to deliver the results of the survey applied to 131 women from the coves of Chanavayita, Caramucho and Cáñamo, near Iquique, with the aim of know their interests and needs.

The workshop was facilitated by SMI-ICE-Chile researchers Francisca Rivero, Camila Cabrera and Catalina Bravo, who promoted a space for reflection on the results, so that the participants could delve deeper into aspects related to how to exercise leadership, their concerns, desires and vision for growth both personally and in their organizations.

In the words of the participants themselves, being a leader of these coves requires skills and values ​​such as: being brave and self-sacrificing, empowering, being collaborative, respectful and a fighter. Along these lines, they highlighted the importance of collaborating rather than competing, of opening to training processes where the most experienced prepare those who take on the challenge of leading organizations, and they also emphasized the need to learn how to overcome the barriers that they often impose on themselves.

Representatives of Teck Quebrada Blanca were also present at the meeting: Cristian Berríos, head of the coastal communities area of ​​Teck-Quebrada Blanca, along with the team’s professionals, Patricia González, Macarena Machado and Dominique Lohmayer.

The next steps will be to systematize the information and based on this, evaluate future opportunities for collaboration with the aim of contributing to the strengthening of female leadership in the coves of this coastal area.
