The collaborative workshop took place at the campus of the Universidad Católica del Norte and brought together representatives from academia, industry and the public sector, with the aim of validating scenarios and criteria related to water use and supply in the region.

The development of this tool is part of the CORFO-funded project “Resilient Future: Smart Water Solutions for Regional Sustainable Development”, led by SMI Chile.

The session was attended by Barbara Torres Vallejos, Deputy Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at CDPR Antofagasta-CORFO; Dr Mary Valdés, CEO and co-founder of EcoMina; and Christian Herrera, Director of the Water and Sustainability Research Centre in the Desert at the Universidad Católica del Norte (CEITSAZA UCN).

Dr Nathalie Jamett, the researcher leading the SMI Chile team behind this development, thanked participants for their support and engagement. She explained that the project was created to strengthen decision-making around water use by integrating data, scenarios and a systemic perspective of the territory. “Along this journey, collaboration is key,” she emphasised. “Through these spaces, we aim to foster dialogue, exchange and networking among those addressing these water challenges from different roles. The strength of the tool we have developed depends on incorporating these diverse perspectives and contributions.”
