Together with the Teck Quebrada Blanca Coastal Communities team, Francisca Rivero, in her capacity as researcher for the Center’s Social Performance team, conducted an initial information activity to disseminate the survey that will soon be applied to women from the coastal edge, in the coves of Chanavayita, Cáñamo and Caramucho, to learn about their interests and thus identify their capabilities.

The activity was aimed at women with different roles as social and union leaders in the area where these coves are located.

“The objective of this meeting was, first, to get to know them and learn about their stories as women living in a cove,” explains Francisca Rivero. “We wanted to learn about their achievements and challenges; above all, the path they have had to take to become social and union leaders who mobilize and seek solutions to improve the well-being of everyone in their territory. A second objective was to present the survey to them, to count on their commitment to disseminate this instrument among other women in these coves.”

Representatives of Teck Quebrada Blanca were also present at the meeting: Cristián Berríos, head of the coastal community’s area, along with the team’s professionals; Patricia González, Macarena Machado and Dominique Lohmayer. In addition, professionals from the teams of communities in the high Andean and pampa areas joined in.

The next steps of this project will be the application of the survey (until November 29), analysis of the results and restitution of the results to the women of these coves near the city of Iquique.
