G3 – Risk Management Systems for Managers and Bowtie Facilitator (Integrated Programme)

This programme combines the G3 course on Risk Management Systems for Managers with facilitator training in the Bowtie methodology, enabling participants to understand and apply advanced tools for managing critical risks in high-risk organisations.

The course covers the strategic fundamentals of risk management systems, the role of leadership in preventing major incidents and the effective implementation of critical controls, integrating these concepts with the practical application of the Bowtie methodology to identify threats, visualise risk scenarios, strengthen control barriers and facilitate informed decision-making processes. This programme aims to strengthen organisations’ capacity to anticipate, understand and manage critical risks, promoting a culture of safety leadership based on evidence, structured analysis and informed decision-making.

Bowtie Facilitation Course

Participants attending the combined course will receive a Certificate of Attendance for the Bowtie Facilitation component.
Whilst the course provides participants with a solid practical foundation in the methodology and facilitation techniques, it is not possible to assess competence in Bowtie facilitation. This limitation stems from the fact that this competence needs to be observed and assessed in a real-world work context, which is not possible in a purely classroom-based setting.

Key points to consider:

• Completing the Bowtie course does not automatically qualify or certify participants as competent Bowtie facilitators.
• The certificate attests to attendance and exposure to the methodology, tools and principles of facilitation, rather than demonstrated competence in the workplace.
  For individuals or organisations wishing to progress towards Bowtie competency certification, coaching sessions or on-site assessments are available as a separate arrangement following the open course.

GMIRM / G3 Course

The GMIRM (G3) course awards a Certificate of Competence, subject to the satisfactory completion of all course assessments.
This qualification is widely recognised in various Australian states as fulfilling the risk management competence requirement for the statutory role of Senior Mine Manager (Site Senior Executive, SSE).

Key points to note:

• Participants are not automatically certified simply by attending.
• Certification is awarded only upon successful completion of all required assessments.
• Time is allocated during the course to complete the assessments, including two group assessments.
• Some participants may need to set aside additional time after the course to complete the remaining assessments to the required standard.

The GMIRM course assessments include:

• A questionnaire
• Analysis of the participant’s organisational risk management system against the course criteria, including the identification of opportunities for improvement (individual)
• Drawing up the scope for a risk assessment (individual)
• Development of an organisational risk register (group)
• A critical analysis of an activity-based risk assessment (e.g. JSA)

Prerequisites for participation

There are no mandatory minimum qualifications or specific profiles required to attend the Bowtie Facilitation and GMIRM/G3 courses. However, this training is particularly aimed at individuals working in health and safety, risk management, operational supervision and leadership, who are involved in supporting or facilitating risk assessments in their workplaces.

Summary for participants

• Bowtie Facilitation Course: Certificate of Attendance (does not accredit professional competence or certification as a facilitator).
• GMIRM/G3 Course: Certificate of Competence, subject to completion and performance in the assessments.

Refund Policy

• Right of withdrawal (services not yet commenced): The participant may exercise the right of withdrawal without giving any reason within a maximum period of ten (10) calendar days from
  the date of booking and payment for the service, provided that the course has not yet commenced and the participant has not accessed any digital or printed content. In this case, SMI Chile will refund 100% of the amounts paid within a maximum of 30 working days.
• No refund due to substantial progress (services commenced): Once the participant has accessed and/or benefited, either partially or in full, from the provision of the training service, the following policy shall apply, on the understanding that the main cost of the service lies in the transfer of knowledge and intellectual property.
• If the course has commenced and the participant’s progress is 50 per cent or more: the participant shall not be entitled to request a refund of the amounts paid. It is understood that, upon completing fifty per cent (50 per cent) of the total content, the participant has accessed an essential part of the subject matter of the contract and part of the intellectual property therein. Therefore, the service is considered to have been substantially performed and completed.
• If the course has started and the participant’s progress is less than 50 per cent: SMI Chile may consider a request for a partial refund, deducting administrative costs and the proportional value
  of the content accessed.
