The general manager of SMI-ICE-Chile, Francisca Rivero, and the director of the Center for Research in Technologies for Society, Camilo Rodríguez, took advantage of their presence in Brisbane, Australia, to visit the Indooroopilly experimental mining site.

This site houses the Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre (JKMRC) and the WH Bryan Mining Geology Research Centre (BRC) of the Sustainable Minerals Institute, and is the headquarters of JKTech Pty. Ltd.

A century ago, the site was a silver mine, but today it is a research center addressing the challenges of energy transition, especially in mineral discovery and processing.

Francisca Rivero and Camilo Rodríguez toured the flotation and rock crushing laboratories, as well as the pilot plant, where researchers test innovations developed for industry. The JKMRC researchers Saeid Zare, Christian Zuluaga, and Tania Ledezma (a Chilean researcher) served as guides for the tour.

“It is very valuable to be able to experience the research work at JKMRC firsthand and, in particular, to meet the young people who are driving this research,” said Francisca Rivero.
