With a PhD in Management with a specialization in management control from the University of of Ottawa, Canada, Mary Valdés has over 25 years of experience in academia and industry, where she has held executive roles in management control, tax, finance, and auditing in public institutions such as Codelco and the SII (Internal Revenue
Service), as well as in national and multinational companies.

Mary Valdés also has extensive academic experience as a professor, researcher, and in management, having served as director of the Mining Business School at UCN from 2024 to 2025. She recently founded Ecomina, a technology-based spin-off focused on sustainability compliance, where she remains a partner and CEO.

In 2024, she was recognized as one of the “100 Inspiring Women in Chilean Mining” by WIM, an advisor at the Women Economic Forum Chile. Throughout her career, Mary Valdés has developed deep ties with the Chilean mining ecosystem and has been recognized for fostering high-impact collaborations between industry, government, and universities, with practical results in applied research, consulting, technology transfer, and executive education.
